Umba (Matsimela): Foundation Dubplates, Sound Clash History & Trinidad’s Sound System Legacy

In this episode of The Corie Sheppard Podcast, we sit with Umba, selector and driving force behind Matsimela, Trinidad & Tobago’s most formidable sound system. From playing records as a child to clashing on some of the world’s biggest stages, Umba breaks down the real history of sound system culture — not hype, not nostalgia, but lived experience.

We trace Matsimela’s rise from grassroots dances to World Clash appearances, unpack how dubplates were sourced, funded, and protected, and explore why Matsimela is known for having the deepest foundation dub box in the country. Umba shares behind-the-scenes stories involving icons like Bounty Killer, Capleton, Sizzla, Everton Blender, Buju Banton, Sean Paul, and more — plus what it really took to compete with international sounds like Mighty Crown, Panther, Tony Matterhorn, Fire Linx & Stone Love.

This is also a masterclass in sound clash strategy: momentum, psychology, crowd control, and why preparation — not volume — wins clashes. Beyond clashes, Umba reflects on radio’s golden era, building audiences before social media, mentoring younger selectors, and why sound system legacy must be documented, not diluted.

This episode is essential listening for anyone who cares about Trinidad’s music history, sound system culture, dubplates, and the business behind the culture.

Corie:

Like like the David was in dead on times on our website and thing interviewing people isn't the first time I do it now. So I trying to now document her time.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, they're gonna run. I watched it that game kicks. Yeah, you see Hoppy. I laugh at him and see Hopy, Happy Hope to run.

Corie:

But you know, PC running, man. But the thing was funny about it. The man was they're gonna know because when you talk about 45 shoots out, that's really the only thing I'll ever really win.

SPEAKER_04:

And I was hosting the events. I can't host and study to compete too much. That was the thing with the most sound, too. Because had everybody, yeah, do you think that's what I mean? You were the customers, yeah. Because I was I hosted, I come up with the concept. Right. Right? And I come up with the concept. I said, Boy, Basel, let me do this, but so come and say, right.

Corie:

Oh, Basil wasn't over too.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, sure. So I come up with the team with the the the whole investing. I come up, he ball he came up with the best thing. I just laugh. You understand? I know that crazy. Everybody say so you know, everybody say the whole concept, you shoot everything. Yeah I can't put you that's the badest idea. Uh-huh. You understand? And and come up with it. And because because um I'm trying now, Randell. 66 had real vest now. Yeah. I'll come up with this concept and sell vests. But you tell me why you sell him most vests. Yeah, everybody comes up. You understand?

Corie:

Yeah, because all the prime remember the flyers and things. Yeah, big flyer because my kids.

SPEAKER_04:

Different things.

Corie:

I mean, he was on point that night for real, but yeah, even who was real bad, boy, Judah, boy.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, Judah. Judah being bad.

Corie:

He dropped out early.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, Judah, they covered the um the cap's gone and it didn't fire either.

Corie:

Yeah, don't drop it out early. If you make one wrong, you make plenty. We good, David, though. Sorry, we can say are we starting already? Welcome to the Cory Shepherd Podcast. Welcome back to everybody who's been listening. Welcome to all the new listeners. Thanks, David, for letting me know we start. Today I have Umba from Matsumilla, brother. Best sense. Long time, brother. Listen, long time now. I'd tell people a story before we start this, right? Everything I ever start in this thing, industry-wise, umba who is always go to for connect. Long before David Wears can take over the show.

SPEAKER_04:

Everything, everything. So I appreciate that over there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. One way. Yeah, one way, one way. Catch it, that's well.

Corie:

Yeah, one way. You know? You know, if you talk about the junior Kelly before the show, you're still you're still in the mix more, you're still there with all the artists. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

Because I mean me and an artist and them had good relationship for years. I mean, because when they now started their career, they come for me for the push for the help. Yeah. You understand? So, I mean, it's nothing to me. If I had the platform, I will I will share it. Because knowledge is something they share helping is something to you understand. Not one pussy, always help each one help one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You understand? So a lot of artists used to come them time, you know, because I'll be going to Jamaica for years, right? The first time I visited Jamaica, my dad used to come to Jamaica, like 191, 19, 81, 82. Serious? Yeah, young fella going to Sun Splash. Yeah. Yeah, up in Mount Tigobay in Jamaica. When everybody was looking forward to go America, go somewhere else, we used to look forward to going to Jamaica. Yeah. We spent like the whole two months.

Corie:

Yeah, because Sun Splash was festival, right?

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, it was a whole festival in like like like four, five days, different nights, you know, food, you know, the art. Real nice.

Corie:

And if anybody knows Jamaica shows to sunrise and sunrise, yeah, when sunrise, you said I know you're in Dennis Brunger.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, because them time we sleep, we live for a we take a little nap, and then you're in Dennis Brung and Freddy Mugga. Serious from Dennis Bronze. So that experience, you know. So from them time we had a whole link with Jamaica. Right. Sometimes you say, Well, you must say, Well, yeah, you got like kids at Jamaica. But they understand them. I mean, that was I grew up amongst. You know, because when we get started in the business, right? My my dad now loves music. Yeah, he was DJ in Antonio. Yeah, well, he wasn't the DJ. He's just a man behind it. Behind the scene love music. When we we young going up in Picton 11 until he well, my father from Bonjour, my mama from my mom from Amazon. Bonjour, the father from? Yeah, my father from Bonjour. I tell him because bias and James passport to the biggest. No, because because no, when when when when I I attend my Mukrapple, right, Junior. So I will get ready in Picton, and time of thing I will go down with my dad in Bonjour, and then we'll go back home in love and then leave to school. So we have family hunting in Bonjour. Serious? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I tell them, but Picton is foundation, but Bonjour is part of the channel. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Corie:

Yeah, that doesn't, and I don't want to say that. So that's making it time. He loves the Jamaican music. Yeah, he loves the music.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, because from smaller thing, but we got to love the music. But I know them little time, mom and them is record collectors. And they had this little, you know, the little small thing home there, little two speaker box. So sometimes my mom now will pawn uh album to run. Time it run out, she'll be doing something in the kitchen outside. You know, you glad not to tick up the needle. So that's just too little record. You excited. You excited just to just to do that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, so the little fella, you know you can't trouble, you can't go and not trouble nothing. Nice problem. But if it's on, and it's all run out, you will come and switch it over and play and you feel it nice. And then it can't really call it, you're gonna be touching it and you know, loving it from them time, my brother and myself. Yeah, yeah. You know? So we will grow up doing that. Then my father said, Boy, you want to build a song system. Right? So you say you want to go to the route.

Corie:

So wait, outside of Jamaica, you start to get to love the song system, don't you? Right, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

So you say you get together, you had some friends, some from Jamaica now. So you say, right, all right, them time is true bam. Right. Get the sweeter the bass play. What do you mean? Yeah, so my dad now come together, you know, go to Jamaica, bring out some of your friends, build up the song system, right? Have it running now. You don't have a name for it. Don't have a name for it. Well, you know, you want to build a song. Yeah. Because you love it. Because them times now you can't go on nobody, sit and play. No, you have to have your own song system. The first mic I talk on is Papa Rocky. Seriously. Yeah, my father keeps a party, little fella. I take the mic, Rebe.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Yes, I say, my first time I take you, Mike, you know. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

So don't respect the Papa Rocky. You don't have a father good return. So you keep a party, I take you, Mike, and take. So then no more father say, but you want to believe your song. So you go to Jamaica, bring these gentlemen, as I said. And no, he had no name for it. Yeah. No name. So my mom now goes into Arabic book, now come up with the name Matt Similar. Yeah, because it means Matt Similar is Woods and Culture. So she's the name Matt Similar Woods and Culture song. But now Matt Similar and the Woods and Culture, it was so long. Yeah. So we just name it, let's leave the Matt Similar song. But the Woods and the Culture is still there. So name the song. You know, when you come to China, now the Jamaican guy will be there playing the song. Now respect the moon. Originally. So we little fellas they've had in them record. We glad to do the part, you know. Come on, father, keeping the dance too. I always believe in promoting yourself. Don't wait for nobody to come and promote you. Yeah, so I'm going to say, boy, promote yourself. So why your father, but I just keep the dance on them. We day, mom cooking food. Wow, man, good vibration. You know? So we know when you let you dad now, we have six months to stay. Yeah. So after the six months, they have to go back to Jamaica to the song. Sometime no. Song that's there. Yeah, yeah. Fingerling, fingering, touching, touching. But brother, no easy engineer. You do it to mount top the song and tell me because you have to mount top the song. They could. We can't meet because them time now the turn table on top. So you know how to put carbon. Yeah, it's a critical. You gotta put crates and think to stand up now to pawn the turn table. Right. So when them go now, we string up this song, we saw the play. So if I say, alright, keep one or two dance with little fella, playing little parties. It's a wrong picture, too, or wrong lens here. Well, different places are like ching fat and thing. Right. Like in Barataria, we see Ferrari's in two of the region. You know, when we when you a father know where every weekend you will bring out the songs to time in front of you, we will be playing. So we can be practiced from there, stringing up, learning the craft. Right. Learning the craft from there. I tell you about eight, nine years, you know. Yeah. Seriously. And sometimes now. And only talking and playing from them. Talk. When you go in a party, you know, with dad now will say, when you go in the party, you say, Well, them two little children going. Yeah, but I'm you know, them still don't bundle the house. I don't bring them with me. So we experienced the thing from small, going all them soaker dance, some revolution, and all them different things. So we had the thing from then. So now we love anything. Going up from there now, we started go at about 11 years. We now end time of corruption. We the teachers for the school event. So you know it's well. But you know, you have your father. Well, you the DJ in charge. So you know, going to school and use the DJ for the thing, so you know you're like in yourself. So from that we move on and think we're doing the fun thing, doing different events. Last time we party, we making no money, you know. Party party bus. Bus. We're coming out. But then now, so try to go to school, we're crap about 10 more crap. Now then we had this space in young disabled with Napas.

Corie:

Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um Princess Building.

SPEAKER_04:

Princess Building Ground, but in front of this called Little Jamaica. That we all in a carnival season, you go in there to hear reggae. Right, you're gonna do it.

Corie:

Them youth and them feel that new now in home, but we dance all playing in carnival season.

SPEAKER_04:

But we used to play, we used to do it so they understand. But when the pan respect the pan, we was we was stop the music and the pan thing, but after that, I mean it's it's it's tough for it, it's like it's it's shoot like that. You know? So them time I was all over you 12 years doing that. Yeah. Playing them time you can't thing you dig just for no hour, you know. Yeah, yeah. You had to stand up and play for all seven hours, you know. So the one I tell man when they feel like they there's long distance taller. Records. It's not no C D them thing, not around. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because you had you had me as CI watching you, so it's not in that record. That doesn't exist. You know, so we we do so we had that that that that part of the era now, so we we moving forward now. We're now time finishing school now. 15, 16 finishing school. But I don't know why I'm gonna do already music. So then I went to sour comprehensive after. Right. Right? So today school, 15, 16, right? So we there, we had a we had a start up, something now. I don't know the music I love already. So my mom now says, God and hen, we should communication because union all there. Start up from there. So we had to keep some dance now. Let's literally dance on them small, 10, 15 people. And we can't think them 15 people come there, they'll feel playing no song and play your switching off. You gotta play for them. So my father says, listen to me. You see, when you please them 15 people, they go tell them now we tell it to 30, then it's it into a hundred, when you please them 100 people, dance on them ram now. Right? So you know, them time you had to come up with concept. Not nowadays you're feeling anything, you had to work, you had to work your concept. So launch you had a party, don't celebrate. I thought I like the concept. We say, come for nine o'clock. A little bit later, no, come for nine o'clock. So I say, I like the idea, but I cannot say I cannot use that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I say, boy, if you're not early, your cure come in. And you see that tag light, partner, that is going to get early, your care come in. And we started there's work from there, partner, work thanks nice. So after you know, we started pokings all over. But it's it had a trend from there. Because we know what you think was more grassroots. Yeah. You know, we had the grassroots lock in. Lock in, lock in. The French song we were getting little blind thing now being used to be there. Right them time, it turned up chariot, it's no new chapter. New chapter is a bycass it for me.

Corie:

I guess. I guess.

SPEAKER_04:

Right? Blackstone, um, gage used to play with Blackstone. So we said Blackstone, um Blackstone or Black Chariot? No, Blackstone, Blackstone for Black Chariot. Serious, they were Blackstone. But Gage was part of any branch off. Right, right. Right that time we don't shoot on nothing in there. Yeah, no, no. So they used to play a little that is up close yet. Nah, right. Right at time, 16, 17, they we dance all. Right. They were playing all over the place. Because boys, sometimes we had to split up three, four times. Then days are bones with already. Um prosperity, no really prosperity no. Prosperity comes after. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Way, way, way, way after. Yeah, it's cause all carnival time. We have we dance, we get dance, ramen. Yeah. Because people were places to go, they were things to do, different things to do. Yeah, I don't need places and any fit. So 1780, we do everything, we run any place doing we thing. Right? So then now, you see, we want to move on to bigger things, we wanna do different things. So I attend this concert with um with Fuji's and supercat in the Silvana. That's about what 95.

Corie:

Yeah, that's mid-90s, yeah. Yeah, 95.

SPEAKER_04:

I see you. I everybody playing on any concert. I stand up and I watch them soon. I say, see, this I need to do something like this, boy. I'm gonna do something like this. So everybody taking that three and I say down the praying, I watch any vibe, watching the vibration, I pray. So I come up now, I say, boy, let me do our concert. So men watch if we do concert. We gain money to do concert. You coming up in the money, you know, thing to do concert. So you know, come together with some brothers on myself. We come together and we do this concert name Unity First. That was the first one. That's the first concert we did.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

Right? Unity First, we had um, because them time we don't know the bigger, you had to meet you had a creative artist, because nobody didn't know about Yami Bolo them. Right? So now you have to push your artists. So Yami Bolo, determined, Capiton, and Terry Gancy. First show we jump out with. Nice Ram. Where do it? I do it in um pardox in Savannah, Queen Spark, Savannah, they're pardox. Nice, yeah, boy, paddocks, sweet. See how that's sad? So them time now, it had uh an MPC player. Nobody had it in China other than Marshall. So now we had to go and raise Marshall fake doll. Marshall, it is a while, Mike. I performed it too. So we say, boy, all right, you let me the player, no charge, nothing, enough respect to that, Marshall. Pick up yourself, because you the only man in the country had that equipment at the time. So we learned as you could. You needed not to back the artist, yeah. Yeah, because you know. So we did it. Everything went smooth, nice. Right. Next yeah, so we think nice. Look at the one.

Corie:

So that first one, you back any artists on his set too. No, well, that time.

SPEAKER_04:

And and the front thing come up with their band. Right. Full band.

Corie:

So wait, where are you getting money? Oh, you're paying together.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, bring it out, and think, you know, you're playing in events, you will tell the song sister, man, Lalo, rest in peace. After. Yeah, Lalo, rest in peace. Because sometimes you do the song system and say, bye, we pay after, you know. But you know, you say, All right, don't worry yourself. Right. You know, because we little youth, we trying. Yeah, it's right. You understand? Because where we come from, we we we we we we looking to do good things and big things, right? So you do you can't do it. And you connect to the artists and them the topic. Connect with the artists and them too, you know. Yeah, because determined, rest in peace, Ron Bennett. Yeah, good brother. Two formal energy, you know, because because you remember some of the artists and myself is not just artists, it's like trenching, right? Determined. I used to go and stay in space in Portmore. You understand? When I go into a book different show, he's taking me not watching no face. Yeah. Said why it's like Everton Blender. Right, Blender will pick me up, cry me to studios, looking for dubs. He will carry me, watch no face. You understand? Because you know the strength. I get them show the years now.

Corie:

Because even when people here, Capleton know, that's a different Capleton sometimes.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, keep that different in a long time. You understand? Yeah, Capleton's really different. Yeah, yeah, yeah. At least for Trinidad, that part of it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you know, show right nice next year though. See we doing great again. Yeah. Queen at them. Why this is really life, life, life, life experience. So I went to Sisla. That time Sizzla fresh. Yeah. Sisla myself have a good relationship. I said, Dad, I want you dad. Right? Going to Sisla now. Say he charged me a price. I said, Whoa, that price I think I played one time. Go and give me money. Tick, tick, tick. Sizzla and Tony be everything looking to transpire. Boom, back on her with Sisla. Get top of that promoter from Chile Daddy, that promoter comes and offer him way more than myself. Take it. That comes feel. I come back on with our whole show.

SPEAKER_03:

Right, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

You understand? But but everything now is uh is um was a learning process, right? Because not everybody would you had to start to come down because Rastafari. Now we had to do business. Very important. So this that led me now anything you're doing in life, umba. Up to that time, it's just a talk as a big thing. Yeah, because yeah, because sometimes we know Rastafire, because Rastafari would is is the goal and the bone. So the time you go and do anything, I'm gonna say Rastafari, that the price thing, you work in with that, you know, a problem. You understand that we will believe in that we will go on. Right. So them time now I said not time I doing business. Had a big pen and paper. Yeah, contract got the work. Contract got the work. You understand? So then now we go on and we bring Buju and to the different artists. Them times now with Jamie, nobody. Yeah, boy. Right? Jam Mason, no, so you book back capital. We carry Jam Mason, Charles Mason move with capital as a flak, man. Shaqio is a flak man with capiton in them. That's where you start off. Yeah, the men that's moving with capital. Yeah. You understand? Why tell Char Mason? Yeah, what happened to yourself, you tell me a train that come. You understand? You man think that them had one song money, them are run down. Yeah, them time Jamali. Yeah, don't jamali.

Corie:

I want one song, El Shaddai. You know what's happening plenty. I find uh when I was living in Jamaica, it's an artist you could tell them about what real big hair. Yeah. And then you talk to them over the people don't know them at all. Yeah, they don't know them at all, but it's plenty of them used.

SPEAKER_04:

Look, look, look, for instance, Darwin Congo. Yeah, they don't know him at all. They say we congo. He songs is big, yeah. But that's music, eh? Sometimes music now, that music, you can't find that. Sometimes music, yeah, they will love it. Some will go yeah, ain't it? So that's why now for artists and members push out the music. And when they when they come in the island, they do the research, they find out what big yeah. Right, yeah. That's how music is. Right? So moving on, now we keep them two shows now. We got artists, dub, dub, voicing. When you bring the artist, you have to give me dubs. So from then you start to collect dubs from the state. Yeah, because before that I collect dubs because the first the first time I went in a studio, same time with Jamaica, that King Tubby's. Right. Because our father brings Anthony Red Rose. Oh, serious? Yeah. Right? I went in King Tubby's studio. Those who knew them studio, them is foundation. That time we doubled is steel. If you penny doubled it behind me, he's licking off your neck. Because he's the actual steel itself. Right? So that's the first time we know we tried to do the plate. So the first double card was Anthony Red Rose. That's the same Anthony Red Rose, yeah. Red Rose, Anthony Red Rose them time. But that time Red Rose is an amount of fact thing and in the early days. So that's the first doublet we we we collect. Then now my father, my dad now was basically in New York now. See you at Derek Parker. Side of voice that then after that. Incapitated Blender now. So Blender, do this toplate now. When the man played, do this doubling for the first time. I like this song, yeah? You just know. So you know when you get? Yeah, nobody do it for me, right? Big up um I don't big up Sean. Sean Thomas as well. Because Sean Thomas is the man that linked us to Everton Blender. He did the doublet for us, but when he did it though, did that now come on spoil? At the time we do it. Yeah, that's flu. So did that kind of, so we went back to Blender now and he had to do it over. At the time we link up with the with the Michael Matthew. Let's help me with that. So who's saying though? That is that was that was um well, that wasn't ever time blender. You know them students have 10, 15 men doing intro. It's like really the good. So that man was there with the introfaces. But that was the like them days because the little you have, you have to make it work for you, don't go. Because you remember now we ain't had a big money to voice to bunk. And you had to do four back in the day, yeah. So you can't really fight them because the little cultural artists now will try and work with you. Right. Right? So we know we voiced a blender, we bring Louis culture so we we we get in Louis Dubs and them.

Corie:

What Louis does here?

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, them dubs and them are doing here. And when we started working on them dubs for. Trust me, them, them tuner them create history all over the place. Couple motor will come to me. I say, boy, I was sitting among for the party. I say, well, alright, if I come here, party and I play in the blender.

SPEAKER_05:

Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright.

SPEAKER_04:

I said, I will come to the event. I'm not playing a template. But that we had a tembler is where you want for event. Because when that tune play, the comophones. That watch that quay, that tune key and not and not just to out and to bigo. Yeah. Because some place I go into watch now. I said, look at them time with our ways. I don't touch you to find it. So when I watch traveling to the country side, I stop listening. And the worst thing is I have some concept directed. You teleport number the blue paller, you see some graph there. Yeah, you try me. What with his graph and his blue pallet? What you looking for it, you can't find it.

Corie:

Uh huh. What are the greatest things?

SPEAKER_04:

You have to stop and listen and listen music and was the dancing man again.

Corie:

24 hours, 24 hours.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, 24 hours. What do they used to call it back then? 24 hours, 24 hours. I see that blender played that. Yeah, well there. Cool. Yeah, yeah. That another concept we come up with it, let's say by we keep a party going for 24 hours. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, so you come your party 24 hours, still against stopping. When you come back, music still running. Right, yeah. Uh you know, that's another late, late, late part in the career. So yeah. So when we saw the collect dubs and things now, star to go out there, represent two we thing, parties happening. Then you know, launch comes down, approach us for radio. Because we didn't really like the radio thing. Because remember, radio now, you stereotype, you had to sit in a box in a box. You had to respect what we are about to do. So we said, boy, we do think anything for we know. Before we said yes. So come to us again. That time they had something in um in Westmore, they said call it. David place. Yeah. That was where David from. So we still go there, past you. Now before we already say, call us and they say, boy, let me try it. Because them times now, the now startup the dance are good to be with base. Right? But you know the thing now all the little different structure towards it. Right? Bass now come and left and flying out, yeah, move abroad. So say, alright, it's we kind of vibration, so we need dancer good to be. Because them time it down five and seven and ten radio station. Them time is it's either nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, no, no, no, no, no. Nine eight, nine. Yeah, or nine sixty six point one. Nice urban station that we're on in the place. But you see, when Saturday night comes from six. Yeah, boy.

Corie:

I don't know if it had another show. It's not the place like that since now you can do no, no way.

SPEAKER_04:

They could do where you want. I don't know if you really remember. That was like 80 something and 90 something percent of the at the country itself serious listening to that program.

Corie:

Yeah, that'll stop where you're doing six of Saturday evening.

SPEAKER_03:

Why didn't we stop where you're doing TV off?

Corie:

And then too, you know what people might remember too. Them time before they come on. I was surprised, huh? As a fan of Matsumila, yeah. Yeah, when I hear all they're doing radio, I said, but that's real different because they know all of us independent men doing your own shows because big shows them time, some of the biggest shows in the country. Yeah, and then I see all it doing radio, and some of the other song systems went on too. Yeah, but the plate never used to play on radio. I don't remember hearing the radio like that, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

But uh, yeah, thought well, well, launch used to play the double plate. Yeah, every now and again. But when we come on, you know, because every Saturday we look the people looking forward to hearing new double. You know what back can I reach on with? Yeah, because you know it's something you had to make goes. You know, you see this goes, yeah. And swallow face. Swallow face by the end of the day. Yeah, well, and I want that because when you play that and you get that effect, yeah, more, more, more will come in.

Corie:

The other thing too was the format was different from your city. Yeah, they ain't one thing all week on his station, but dance all good too. That's Saturday night. Yeah, you ain't thing when you never hear.

SPEAKER_04:

And then no, well, you know, the carnival season comes around, so that was a little tickeless because we were known for biggie. Right? But I said at the end of the day, I'm a trimbegonian, so I not gonna come off a radio from that time. I I would call along to the carnival season. Because no fart is something when it's when this song park, I decide. But I am like to listen different things. Look, look, look, look, look, look KMC. I take up that song and play for the first time. I wake up no no no no no. Yeah, boss that song. Nobody never knows KMC. Come through the gate. No fatties. No fatties, look, look, look, look, look so happy the other day. That guy said that song parking. Uh-huh. That song is a box. Men didn't want to play that. And when I hear the song, I said, but you hearing the song about it?

unknown:

You know?

SPEAKER_04:

Well, that comes Shalom myself. But we ain't said reached it yet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Originally is you and Curtis. Yeah, so Curtis and myself, yeah, plain. But I somehow do the video thing. Right. Uh-uh and and them time. So that time 96.1, that is Dong Tong Express building. Right, right. Right. Then now it moved to that time it had no happy and them thing and happy coming out harassing me in new city mall every every day. But that time I didn't say you have in love with our girl in the east. So you travel. So traveling, yeah, City Gate, and I wanted that, I wanted a base, right? So because people wanted to get our cassettes, different things. So coming to love until now was a kind of little difficult. So, and I'm going and get a store in New City Mall. It's easier for people to communicate. Yeah, culture shop. Yeah, culture shop. We will come there and function from there. Yeah. Right up, we'll come around. We are doppler, doppler, doppler. Food doppler to that voice for me, take it from my pocket and pay for it. Four P. Yeah. Pay for it. You know, because you persistant. Yeah. Yeah, you come out, Chris either man. Yeah, Chris, yeah. Yeah, you owe me. Nice up scotch ticket. Anyway.

Corie:

With inflation and real men pass through, you know, because if I remember right, that way I meet you for the first time off a stage and then dance and things. I used to be there all the time. I used to hoppy the regular. I see blaze the regular, blaze the blaze, another good good brother of mine.

SPEAKER_04:

You know, enough respect. Good, good, good brother. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know? So from did that culture shop at night, but then that should be fire and thing. Yeah, man. Come on, get boo. Now, what we we come again, open it back up. That was a nice little beast.

Corie:

We used to we plus we used to sell real cassette, yeah. Different cats, clash and dance, so Jamaica thing. All them things we used to get about.

SPEAKER_04:

Everything.

Corie:

I was looking for one of the label home, but no, I was some by my mother, you know. The labels we used to put any cassette. Yeah, from back in the day, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

That was that was some some some some dance time. Yeah. So I just see we do the we we we we do the soaker thing. Right.

Corie:

So people as you're your code.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, some yeah, but Cody audience was was upset. But they had to understand, right? When when it when you're doing radio, it's a different thing. It's not about you now. It's about pleasing an audience. Yeah, bro. So you had to take your yourself and your different things. Yeah. You know, that the sacrifice about about radio. But remember his format, different things, you had to work within that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, some of my co-audience were upset. But I I wasn't I will do it again. Right. Because it opened a lot of different doors for me as well. But you know, people now could hear you as a wide audience now with latch on tail. Yeah. You know, some people will hear your work and different things. If I do I do it again, uh, you know, now everything you do in life, everybody will be police about it. But then now they will understand uh uh uh and the and and the uh latter part of everything, you know? Yeah, because when when we start up radio, they not know set of song system on radio. No. Was signal, signal, Saturday signal.

Corie:

Signal, you shouldn't do dubs at any point in time. You was adopted.

SPEAKER_04:

No, well, remember signal and lost. Right, it's well known, yeah. Right. So signal, you you and sister after myself. No tweeze, then myself. Yeah. Bass would have been there already. Yeah, well, bass was there first. But this we went on. Right, oh yes, it's true, yeah. He flowed following. So Paula called and myself is to do the programme. Right, right. Then move down to to uh um Chagit Road where it continue. Then now they wanted some new talent. They wanted some new talent to come in. Then juggle us. Juggle has come in, you know? We chat my time shall it a little vague. Well, yes, true, true. Then we then radioactive, sort of do their thing. So it was a nice era, boy. That was our era system you know, that was a a real, real, real, real, real, real, real, real good time. Yeah, yeah. You know? And different people, the poster campaign. Yeah, boy. Everybody had their favorite song, they posted campaign, and and them different things. So that was our nice, that was a nice time.

Corie:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Them early days in 9-6 with the with the song system culture and thing. And again, you don't hear laundry type certain extent. Yeah, but outside of that, I don't remember here. No, it was our unique thing, like you say, but you're looking forward every week. Like you remember, you playing it too when they do 999 the other day on um I think it's red when Blaze and The Mm-Day at what dub played day where all songs come in. Well, I did the 999, yeah. That's recently here. No, no, not recently, no. That's a couple of years ago. I hear you on it. You come and play dubs. Well, if them time, I guess appearance. Yeah, I guess appearance, yeah. I I see I see how that stopped the place when Rails was.

SPEAKER_04:

No, but that started that really started from from 96. Yeah. Where where Lange Launchy said, boy, top lady. So it was Longie, myself, video active, jugglers, that's kind of that that day for it start. Yeah, really. The place stopped before 999, you can't come out. It wasn't it was it was 96.1. Yeah, long before first, before anybody else, yeah, yeah, yeah. And well, you know, you can arrest it, you know, and then now 999 come and pick it up.

Corie:

Yeah, that was a unique day, but then they can't, whatever you're doing, that stopped the country. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you for sure. The place in moves, that traffic stuff.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, you play recording your listen. Welcome to your pose.

Corie:

So from then, right? Only have the rivalry and clash thing. Because let me tell you something. As I'm Matt Simular, yeah, you must have your rivalry. Like I tell people from now since back then, it never had no song as bad as Matsimilla. Never, it never's as bad as they could do the one they can't take, they can't take it. But even if volume of dubs you have, I don't know if it has a sound here.

SPEAKER_04:

Because yeah, but if I go back 10% of the money, I I spend on the plate, but I a little a little bend outside. I can tell because watch now, a lot of money, a lot of money spent on double it and and the craft and thing. But uh, I mean, the plate is a drugs, huh? Because as you think you want, you want more.

Corie:

Yeah, hope you talk about it here too.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, no, that's yes, yes, yes.

Corie:

But he'd say you gave me the first one, you know. No, I gave me the first one.

SPEAKER_04:

First one, I could tell him in the face, I spent the money in Arrows Studio. That's how you know nothing about Arrows, yeah, he's all very he said Jews and a mista live in Jamaica, so we had an em. But remember, you have to be them Jamaican studios had to be hardcore to go in them studios.

Corie:

Not just that, yeah. But yeah, that's true. Because some of them studios, well, you know where arrows is. Arrows, you understand I win what road, yeah. You know, you understand? To go wrong there. No, and it's a real artist and thing also. That's another experience I had when I was living, and like when I say I always used to call you. Yeah, I remember trying to get the plates for a song. Somebody asked me to organize for them when I do. And I went and meet Ninja Ford. Right. Boy, Ninja Ford didn't want to do that, boy. That man said, Boy, me don't know who is you think, you nice boy thing, but yeah, yeah, yeah. He said, Who you know in Trinidad where you think? I say, Boy, well, I say no, but he said, You know, then let's use my name for the gateway throughout it. So he says so, you know. Yeah, he said everybody just come here and say no. He said, Call of money phone. Yeah, because I know.

SPEAKER_04:

Because then you put money in the I put a lot of money in the pocket, I get them for I get dub top, voice stop, two different things. Yeah. You know? So when we think of well, it's at um, well, as I said, we do take me chances. It had the Friday, no, we moved to the Friday now. So used to do Don Moral myself. Right. Uh and we used to tell me we'll track it through dance for good to read it. But they had the one different programming. Right. So the Friday now, Don Morrow and myself used to do the programming. But you know, Don is a more soft side of things. Yeah, it's a kind of when you see the two, they put together. Yeah, don't have more soft side. But you said so then now they said they're looking for somebody, and I say I tell Paul Shal. Paul said, Shal, are you crazy? What are you talking about? I say Shal.

Corie:

Shal was not the answer.

SPEAKER_04:

No, Charles, yeah, bank boy. Yeah, now think chuckman pastor and he now start up. You know? Mm-hmm. Now starting with the things. That's the shall say, are you crazy? You know, Paul Khad. I said it's what work, don't worry. I will, I will guide it. That was crazy on a Friday morning. Like big, big, big shot. Yeah, big, big, big, big another big, big, big program. You know? So that was tell them everybody coming in the industry. I I give a lot of them strength. And I don't know if they look back for nothing. Me really looking back for nothing. Yeah, yeah. Some of them we pay respect and it's going like they want to dance it. But I just laugh. Right. But I know. And they'll know for themselves. Yeah. Yeah. Even the name shepherd.

Corie:

I always see it as because so much more foundish. When the men come in, most of them now entering the thing. And you see you talking about playing since he was nine. You talking about playing since he's eighties.

SPEAKER_04:

Over four decades I doing this and thinging. And and and still here. Yeah.

Corie:

Doing it. Yeah. I watching you and Ken Simmons now. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of dream team thing too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

So I'm having the team up and it's a real nice vibration. Yeah. So and then after all, after all said and done. When they come to us and say we will clash Corey. I remember that too. Right? I say, Well, clash.

SPEAKER_00:

So we tell him, we'll tell you, but bully them. But you're crazy.

SPEAKER_04:

But to me, no, why ballin' boy dice the opportunity of a lifetime. When they went south. Right. And Charlotte back and I'll clash you think, think, think, think.

Corie:

I was real surprised at that, you know. Yeah. Because I think for Chin, Chin come, we as patrons, right? We expect him to see Mighty Crum. We expect him to see Sammy T and Simon. Yeah, yeah. So when Chin comes out, those kind of weird.

SPEAKER_04:

Chin is to play a song.

Corie:

But we didn't know that no. Yeah, Chin. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh, seriously. Yeah, Chin is to play King Hagan. I didn't know that at all.

Corie:

Chin. I just know that's promoting. So when we come down there and we ain't see the Japanese on them, it kind of looks away.

SPEAKER_04:

It had one. It had one post, wasn't it? Right, right, right, right, right. Representative. Right. And then you, well, everybody play. That was the baddest dance I ever see a play to him. And then, and also no, so when. So when when when when when it comes down back and I'll but you need done tell me why you are inviting me to the work class. Right. Since then. Yeah, we we when you come down there, you know you interview, you say why you are invite. Because you looking for new blood.

unknown:

Right.

SPEAKER_04:

You're looking for new songs and what 2020 2002. Yeah, that's early days of class. Yeah. Because remember before that Mighty Crown, mathematical. Mighty Crown, Matteron now. 1990. One on your own Charo. Charo. We had we have we had tune. Do you see the only person here who had enough tune to go there? So then now but we say boy, we have to raise at least a little 200,000. People feed up play cheap. When you go to bunk to killer, bunk to killer, say, oh my thousand years. I want you. Come on on that. You don't kill her, killer face. Because people fear to I don't know what killer is, but killer possess that that fear. I don't know. People fear to step them certainly. Killer myself have a good relationship also. You know, they see relationship with artists or you cheat artists before the bus. Yes, people. You deal with them all cartel before cartel bus. I say, Carter, you gonna be one of the biggest things, you know. You watch me son laugh. And I cartel myself today because when you come down here today, though, remember them size. Yeah. Oh, right, right. So I say like the suit general. Yeah. We are stepped to bad man, so I say warm to you. Yeah, brother. Take laugh, thing. You understand? So it's it's all about how you do deal with artists and step to them. Because when killers sit on any car wash, nobody can step to kill us, so you know. So man rung them, man whispering in his ears about it. I said, Yeah, talk to them, talk to them. Talk to killer happen. Two me on to come on a program, you know. Yeah. He watched me, so program. All right, um, get up the money and come check me up. I went by down, I went check killer at 12 o'clock. You know what time I get it up, you tell them nine o'clock you night. Because you tell me go up or down calling. Right, right. You go up and down call it, he for you seen a tune, you had to sit down, you had to talk. You know, when killer talking is a crowd. Yeah, money quiet. When I kill her, don't talk and walk, you know, yeah. Yeah, umba next day. I said, Killer wish next day, but don't give them any money for me, need. Yeah, man. Okay. But you see, killer and them is one take. I just tell them what they want. Want to hell up when I'm at me now? Quick them done wrap up your money. Yeah. I used to kill her, watch now. I used to some chap when you come. Get killer money in about 20 minutes. Yeah, thousand or what? Yeah, because killer one take. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Remember, certain time when you go hard, now it's up. It's just one take, you had to take it up. Yeah, going straight to it. It's straight up. Yeah, yeah. So you can't make no mistake.

Corie:

Yeah, you're wasting money on time, too. You have to be. I hear real men say too when they are killer in the studio and they're going for one or two tunes. After you do the two tunes, you're dependent on your trying to find it.

SPEAKER_03:

Seriously.

SPEAKER_04:

I dip and think we do one for somebody. That's skeptical. Yeah, well, little podium money to make me think. I said, well, let somebody was telling me something for me. I dip. I gave uh about uh thing. I'm getting this um this elephant man, how many songs we kill when we ready? Many, many. I voice some double. I have one space on other plate. Right. Remember that time is two and this time. Two by two. Yeah. So I record two and I want space on one. That time elephant man tried and I literally integral. I say elephant, no rich. Elephant will have a little money to buy weed and some vitriol. So I just woke up to him and squeeze a little thing in the pocket. I say he had one space and adopt, they do a thing for me.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't got a five.

SPEAKER_04:

You know him too. You know him good too. Yeah. Squeeze that in the pocket. He went and shut it out. Yeah, where you want, I said, boy, many, many. Yeah. Boy, that one comedy so well. We kill everybody. That's what spontaneous thing does always work. Things you plan in life. It's never been like spontaneous. I never planned for that. And that worked for me big time, big time, big time, big time, big time, big time.

Corie:

Even the killer never people might remember. Them time when you come back with the killer, right? Not much people here at killer at all. I don't I don't know if anybody had.

SPEAKER_04:

When I voice killer, the first killer voice is here. Right. Right? Because so they're before World Clash Time. Yeah. First killer i voice, yeah. Killer comes in. I voice him. Which one was that? But you remember that. I was um that we we fired fire with fire. Oh shit. And the one on this and uh um that was um Matsumiliak originality, huh? What's our shot as we speak a lot on the collection? Yeah, them dubs I just play them dubs. So it has the dubs we said play. I I can tell you this story, could we? I go into World Clash, right? That was 2003 next year. Because we used the only song that ever never went World Clash and was voted to come back the next year. Seriously we never remember we perform us, we put on. Yeah, but in the first wrong. Yeah, because when when I do so now, first round, yeah. I could get it this story. First round when I go with clash now thing, we pull number two, and everybody number two. So matter and matter and Johnny Killer, right? That when he played the silent wrong, ain't yeah, yeah, you never talk. Yeah, he played, yeah, yeah, he silent drunk, and he thinks that the white cap, caca, cap, cap, caca, cap, cap, cap, cap. Yeah, boy, he did the while, yeah, boy. Amazura, Amazura, I'm a partner. Amazura, that's why I'm a girl, you gotta read if you get a booty. So why when Matteran starts for and core? My belly started hurting. I go on in the bathroom. Now, when I go on in the bathroom, screenshi based me.

SPEAKER_00:

Hey boy, you have a friend, but you have a dead tonight.

SPEAKER_04:

I said one that I create great one. I said, Screen she boy, anything is anything. Mm-hmm. So I'm going to the bathroom, boy. I said, boy, always somebody give me a give me something. Shake off down the shake off down. But you think it's me as I got the mic in my hand, everything is that that is that's just everything is just go away. Right. So I take the mic, I start a work thing, feel all the crowd, do my thing. Yes, and you know, he's a kind of wrongs now. I had to plan out because it's getting banned out to home, yeah.

Corie:

Home because about five or six songs right about.

SPEAKER_04:

And two going home for songs. Yeah. Because Red Spider, Chupa. Jaro's in that Chupa. You know, King Agani. It's a real fight, you had to fight for your life. So you had to you had a fight good. So I said, I can rank. So I wanted. And if you not give me the biggest forward, I never tell the spontaneous thing as always work. But we're writing Saint James there. Um King Kong and myself starting up outside with Lion King. Terry Gansy for you saying because we had a little study, Juggernaut. And Terry Gansy for you see some dubs inside. So Lion King say, Why like you had the two man names? It's them you had to make the busty place. I say, okay. Yes. King Kong and Gans. I don't get the biggest forward. Which one what you know it was? Um King Campbell. It's an right. Yes. We better be spider and shut up.

Corie:

Dread, when you listen to that, even if you listen to Magnicet, no, but only hearing is a rumbling when the song plays.

SPEAKER_04:

For that that shake the place. So when you when you when you think now, some men said to watch you know. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, men know you them time. So men's had the ball, they might come in like Mighty Crown, you know, them day try us, watch them. You understand? So we shake the crowd, gain with respect, you understand? And and from there, well, foreign bookings become crazy them times. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everybody wore clash window, because remember, we we represent. Right? We would clash Panther, Boston, we went to Texas, clash our song down there for the first time. When we go down there, I'll get this show. Going on Texas. Well, the home song, well, you go daddy favourite Mikey Fate. Right. So we had other songs there, and the build mat um no blackyard there, trooper there. So it's Mikey Fate, Trooper Panther and myself. Four song, I think. So his dance going along and thing now. Well, Panther kind of taking the class easy now. You got a software panther, because Panther is very dangerous. Panther is a man you can't give no momentum. No, no. Anytime I gave momentum, you under problem. So you had to soft Panther from early. So I said to soft Panther, we talk to Chronicles. Yeah, it's a thing. Well, I'm Panther now. Nice. So Chupa now said the thing now. Did the text as you remember the workshop? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He said to go at Mikey Fit now. I go this. I go this. Yeah, and go through one for one. Mm-hmm. So when I do so now, some yard, you know, his yardman sign gain, them talk them yardman, oh, all in the corner, oh, itch up on some man like man on no love. Well, and yard man takes that seriously. So I said, me and someone for when I win the trophy. So yardman said, Where this silica wide?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, but man, itch up.

SPEAKER_04:

And I said, But man, what? I said, Big man, we have a pocket that I had a boy looking at a ball. Something. This is something. I said, Big man. I want to put I say respect. Walk away. But we tell me because part that we come for that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You come for do what we gotta do.

Corie:

But it's like I say, you the only one I feel even now. I mean, respect. I was always saying this, you this tooth. I say you Taurus. Is the closest I see come towards it? Yeah, in terms of the amount of dubs and the the the chances he's taken with dubs, too.

SPEAKER_04:

But the song I give a lot of pops to it. Well, Taurus winning thing, but you see Saigon. Yeah, but Saigon, David had to play Saigon and too. David. In terms of selecting. No disrespect to the song. The men are never played David. David was a different boy. Right? Because remember David came from one we remember David one of Willy London study to it. Seriously was on the wheel. What's a Zygon top sort of thing? I helped them voice to it. Yeah. Yeah, in the early part when Zygon and everything. I helped them. But when the artists come now, I go do the program. Right. Okay. I will call, I would call, call them. Right. Everybody go line up on.

Corie:

Yeah, that next people might be remember. No man is just on Instagram and it's a good idea. Instagram saying the same thing.

SPEAKER_04:

Now we have to go up in here. You have to bleach it up. You had a bleach, you had to do your thing, you had a different time. Yeah, it'll be don't be easy. But that why never that why never that why never boy that why never have a boojo. Yeah. Right? I go and check Boju knows. And you and Bujo good. I see Bujo owned by you. Boojo's my red shape. And by chinkies. That was your run. Right? So Bujo knows. I went and checked Bojo now. So Boju watch me know. Umba. Where Dutch Jamaica. So Boju, I come to check in and work. I need some tune.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

But before I start now, I lean up in Bob Booja big studio. So I lean up in the studio now. So I put my foot on the wall. Lean up now. So I'm in the back. Hey Ross, take your foot off of the wall. So now I So Buju watch me and laugh now. See you all now. Not today. Today's a bad day. Check me Wednesday. Say Monday. Check Boju Wednesday. I look at my booju holder, go on by no booju booju in the boocho right. So I go on wedding ready now. I see our stuff on match yank in the middle of the dance floor. And I look at you see his boju. Come check it for the dubs then, man. What happened? Yeah, umba. You buy Guinness me. Think again this and feel alright. You know, ask me with the kids. You say ask me on my field. Everything I double, double, double. Love me a party. Never after it. So I'll tell you how I get it, you know. You know, of course. So that's why you're the fellow guy. You can't play Boojo. No, yeah, yeah. It's literally about us, you quite bring Boochoo, yeah. Yeah, I remember, I remember, I remember that. We have you know, Boojo I myself, you know, yeah, good relationship.

Corie:

Most of the artists, even um, same thing I was talking about with cartel, right? Same thing over there, yeah. And his marketing work I doing, right? So a man connect me now to link with cartel to do some um promotion thing for him then. Them days, cartel are um clerks and thing, right? Yeah, so them don't see what happened with clerks in Jamaica. So them want to do a phone thing with him, with the music phone, but you know, artists sing, you know, just go. So I go on in um Havendale boy. Um boy, I see about 40, man.

SPEAKER_04:

40, that little bit. You come to good man.

Corie:

A friend. Well, you know, if you think I'm good before they're going even there.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, you see, you know it. The gate man are to know you. What do you mean before I can get it?

SPEAKER_04:

That marriage gate because that gated coming because we begin in the uptown place in Jamaica. We create this gas up. So the kid man are to know you. If the kid man don't know you, the middle man are to know you. Yeah, if the car get passy, tongue in the back base.

Corie:

Boy, is that pain? Is that because man on the thing and waiting? I say, Boy, I come to do I know clothes, huh? I dress up like Charlotte. Yeah, this thing.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, for us and then you can't, you can't get boy.

Corie:

It's you again, because anytime I reach it, because when I think now when I mean I address, I see him in the yard reach in the house now. I see him in the yard of gone. I say, but why talking to all these men for a gun? We tell me that real men come now. He said, Who is you in Trinidad? I sit thing thing. Somewhere along the line, something comes up and I say, Boy, well, umbo tick. He said, You know, um that when the whole thing's stuck in now.

SPEAKER_04:

He said, Come on, no, you can't go and step to him just so you know, but I tell people all no.

Corie:

Any artist thing had to deal with this. You had this calling the image of that.

SPEAKER_03:

You can get a book umbook tough to this. So you just can't take that any.

Corie:

I just can't take it about just take it. I remember things to a call in the dung here. I think um was it soon's telephone. Yeah, book show and show it from there. And and we had we was supposed to be swampy, swampy, and something. If I had to deal with it, we can't get paid for that one artist then. Say, don't worry, I'm gonna get George.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, show George kill. We went price. Yeah, I said, George, you don't mean you do that for me.

Corie:

Yeah, but George come last minute and it recorded to the point where they're asking who is he? Yeah, well, it was well. In Jackie, too. I know you are Jackie.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, Jackie said, but Jackie is a telling by ignorance. Same thing. Ignorance, yeah, you know. So you can't be artists, meet us with way in life and be arrogant and yeah, yeah, yeah. Especially in a man country looking. Yeah, they're coming, you end up in a big problem. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I'll get the show as well, Cody. So after after we do the world clash now, 2002, now we voted going back. Right. So I say, boy. We had to get, you know, chun still had a voice. I went to Sean Paul now. I thank Sean Paul. I don't want to care what people say. You know, Sean Paul hot. Sean Paul now charged me at 1,000 US for the duplicate. You know, I have to know why I never played a duplate in life. Serious what happened? Mighty come play before me. Oh shit. Mighty come calm down and play before me and do me say, oh my God. Oh, they know about it. You know, me have option. But nobody in have it. Yeah. All junior gong. All gong. Gong give me two without no time because gong when he comes home for weekend. Oh, gong was here for since weekend. Yeah, he comes little fella and Julian. Right. So midtime I had a little B14. It's like him. So gong when I walked up, I say gong. And I said, and I respect him for that. He just say, All right, thing, thing, thing. Line it up. And and line it up and give it. So you know, but he ate me any wish. You know, the artists and them had a good relationship, you know? Yeah, yeah. So you could always count on them on different things. Now that's good. That's the hard work you're putting, you know? Yeah, well for sure. So now why they sell them me paying all you again? Yeah. No, I won't pay all that much money. I pay all in this life. I put in my worker. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So now when I were a little thing, you have to credit up to me. Can't stop, can't stop, can't stop. Yeah, just cause I little two things about yeah, this, this, this, this, this, this, I had to get this.

Corie:

Yeah, yeah. That's what it's like. Yeah, yeah. I remember the days to us to bring all them artists through now. What was the club in in Bartsarian name again? Leah. Well, Leah was low, Lea, Lea, Le. No, which is what you're talking about. Which part Spanish Harlem and them is now? Um well, I can't let everybody know David know Spanish Harlem.

SPEAKER_04:

No, but it's not in there. Spanish Harlem. Well, there, well, yeah, but not, yeah. But it's not well, there's an artist, but we used to have plenty artists in the tunnel. Right, yeah, I guess. It's Shogunas. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A lot of artists is the past today. Yeah, it and them time it's uh time like in Marble or Basketball Court, M IB. Many black promotion, you were being a big one. Right, man. It might be a bella house off of me, but it's all good here, my brother. You done say it too. Say you make me bella house. Because it be the thing when I go conscious, I don't think. Come when I hear my people talking, we coming, you know. Yeah, people in paying their money to go in the dance. And when we pull up, it will be 40 and we pull up, and people see we stepward partner. You ever see about 500, 300 people rushing in the dance, rushing the bit and going party? Yeah, they don't want to miss it. Don't want to miss it. You understand? And it's only double it segment up to this day. I went I went to a play I went in um library. Mm-hmm. So when I go on the lap, my laptop is not working because the system, you know, because Way back. So now I had a prayer for somebody that time and head shop the double place. Then may not leave any of them, but you're not leaving here unless we hear them tuning on them. You know how far I come from point paying to come and get out of top blend. So now I don't lucky thing, modern technology. Yeah, lucky.

Corie:

Lucky playing it. Them early days of the clashing thing, right? Because them them first said um the first local big clash I remember is Shop Lock. It had clash before before them. Like them kind of organized kind of clash with time and time and thing.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, if the real big clash it had was um center excellent with Judah. Alright, that was Judah was self. Yeah, boy. Um sell radioactive. And who in that? Well in that never ends. Something never happens, yeah. Well, Judah myself go at it, but Judah know. Judah share the guy's stripe, go here with Judah now. But you know, Judah. Yeah, no comparison. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Judah get yourself eat up. You know? I leave him to play and use psyches on him. If it's your time to play, let you play 20 minutes. One is my 20 minutes to play, you can't come on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can't come in in and out. But if you want to see one and one, and you know, Judah now get the people motor yourself to Judah get now. The copy at the dance. And when it's Judah or Judah winning crowd, I remember that. But the Warrior King must be played because I got more came because it's them for back and all with same Warrior King. Right? I pay Warrior King to come to the dad. He comes now and pay Warrior King to come change that. So I make him back and say, Warrior can't take my money and expect to come change. You understand? So that's stem for my little vibration. So you come now and put the Warrior King and he dances, like that one, a crowd making for the city. I mean, I'm not casting. Yeah, but that was that dance that night was it was nice because remember everybody, everybody there, you know, showcase. Yeah, you understand? Then move on to um shop luck, then it move on to uh fully loaded. Right, true, yeah, fully loaded.

Corie:

But shop luck them days with because I guess it's you in terms of selectors, then Mike. It's that so if Blaze was there still on self-construction, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

But Blaze, Blaze and them, but Blaze never come shop luck enough. Oh, you didn't play? No. So who would have shop lock? Shop luck was um Couple Shutters, yeah. Couple shot got tea. Right. Right, juggle, um, not jugglers, um, radioactive. Right.

Corie:

Excalibur. Oh, that was it then. Yeah. So what's the selectors here? It's anybody who'll gain you the most trouble when they go and dance them time. Them time, boy, them man afraid.

SPEAKER_04:

They man afraid, Cody. What? Hope you call for if shop lock, how we call for one and one. Yeah. Say right one and one, let's go. When he one for one comes now, TC go no with the dubs. Yeah. You call one on one, I want four for one. You understand? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hope you know, you can't have because they will run out. One plus most happy, no disrespect. Most of your thing, them touch them. Yeah. Not respect to Piper.

unknown:

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_04:

Not respect. I'll be take one by time and make 15 of them.

SPEAKER_03:

Listen to me. I'll be brave to it. Yeah, what I mean.

SPEAKER_04:

Watch that. I'll be asked, I'll be your God stop now, buddy. Yeah, Mumba Why go and pay all them artists for one pipe. Pipe pipe. Chop up, chop up, chop. Why does always say about what I was? But if you can't afford it, leave it alone. I don't go and play your spice to pay party. Yeah, yeah. I bet I just do half it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And just make it work for me.

Corie:

You understand? You talk about some club I went. It's the same place in Bars are now. I can't remember. You'd play and only leave already. We sit down to the line. We messing up with the plates. So we sit down to the last and boy that was a song here, play a bounty killer, brother. But me and know if the dance rapping up and things, so they just play or the whole dub. Dread, the more the song plays, the less the man's song like killer. And they used to play that all about it.

SPEAKER_04:

Why they're doing that? You understand? So when I come out to the song, think about people they say, but long say I get going. It's problems. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You understand? Because the for the first um, the first fully loaded. That the first fully loaded. Yeah, well, yeah, sell was in that one. Cell was sell caliber, jugglers. Myself, chuggle as win that one. Right. Right? Juggle has win that one. That's some bacana lantis and for that was in Harvards. And that Harvard's is the war grounds.

Corie:

Right, yeah, boy.

SPEAKER_04:

Harvard's is we Amazon, right? The next year now. The next year was Anton. Yeah. Not me spectacular. I see Anton. I name all of them. I name Anton Fidel Castro. Cheers. Yeah, because he just love war. Yeah. And he came out in the Fidel Castro. I used to call you say Anthony no name for you Fidel Castro. Same way I named Judah, Ivan Marley. Oh yeah, I guess so. It's true. Yeah, easy for a smart. Because you come in the butter eating. I said, but you get like one of them little Marleys and the Well. I'll name you Ivan Marley. So from that now, you get the Iphan Marley name. Yeah, yeah. I call I used to call him Castro. You understand? Because I didn't always like Anton bravery.

Corie:

Yeah. Boy, I remember one time in our little men to get the plate.

SPEAKER_04:

Although he has some of each one of them when connect.

Corie:

Yeah. But he brave. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He coming out.

SPEAKER_04:

He just loves it too. Just love it. Yeah, you know. So you know about the time Anton Anton come by that time audio menace. Yeah, well, the men's okay, you know, it's always they gain trouble all the time. Men is gain trouble. Right, true. Well, yeah, yeah, well, remember, he more going out, hoppy and chuckling. Yeah, he had the grind with them fellows. He had the crime with them fellas. So he going at them. Yeah. Till I dance, till I danced when it had it dance in in Trin City. He dancing. Yeah. And he and Jaggers going at it and juggle as and then write him off your own thing to leave. Well, you see menace after that, but it's like you want to bite off and also because you know it'll come and you invite your dancer, you get destroyed. Destroy someone. Men is how have a debtor. Yeah, yeah. What are the time when I'm trooper and was trooper and turn been trooper in Harvards? What menace hold on to Hoppy? What's that? T him up. T M up. Well, menace was like really dead. Yeah, well, he was trying to start something. He was trying to start something.

Corie:

To get you to do your thing, but the songman thing, so I see Hoppy now this week bringing, I think he said from Jamaica's Renaissance, Rory from Stone Love, um, somebody else too. And then you, yeah, but I think the radioactive or base of the sea. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, how was the chances of you're running up on people you're gonna juggle normal way of? Well, I jump in.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, but no, but if I if I think I chumac, I don't, I don't, I have no fear. I can be I I chum a corner. Yeah, because look, look, look, look where I look look look look look for instance the other day. When he keeps when he bring Mighty Kong and Dominican. Some forge.

Corie:

Some forge is in you have a little bit.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah. So I chum up, I chum a corner at Mighty Kong at them. They savvy them come after I start, you start it on. Yeah. I think I have up here for that. Yeah. Who knows? I might do up something for that. If I dance, I will voice something special in that. Same thing like the King Addi's. I don't know if it did come with the Addi's tongue song for it when. No, no, no, the Addi's not the one. Yeah, the Addi's. Yeah, I want to get a big thing.

Corie:

Oh no, yeah, I saw it on Instagram too.

SPEAKER_04:

See, when you when when when when um when Kingpin Pedid up played Blender again, and her voice adopted for Death for the Night. Yeah, and the man comedy take, yeah, shh, spray up the open. You know, and it came take, yeah. Boy, so they brother. So they said, Boy, when you played, we played nothing like that close.

Corie:

No, we the firemen on them had a hole it bigger. That night and St. John's, right? That's when he was on fire. Yeah, but we yeah, we get part time when they smoke clear now when I pass it through the ice. Panther coming out with the trophy. I said, But we're gonna trophy. What do you mean if I get any gone to fly back? Because that night nah it's a that was the night when you and Curtis had kind of reconnect. Yeah, yeah, reconnect, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

But I know they'll go, they will go the wood will beat my song bad on this, and I and I can't do that, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, family others are the the the the in the anoint, you know. That's how it's go. So that night we reconnect, and this was some.

Corie:

But from the time you come out, if I remember right, it'll just start a play and thing and then come and take a fall back out of me. Yeah, dance from them and then same thing. I see the man take up the ticket. Yeah, but I don't know.

SPEAKER_04:

You know, we have in front that I don't know, man. I don't know, man. Oh, yeah, the truth because they really cast them up with Panther. I remember Panther now Panther no play a tune and ticky foot and wheel it and what is the man named those who don't call in the days. Yeah, boy. Man wanna kill Panther watch now. Them days are nice, nice people coming out, and them time now that why you show them nowadays bringing out female as well. Yeah, yeah. Nowadays I tell them the only supporters or they're no fan base. And you know it's easier now because you remember if them time we had Instagram, if them we had Instagram and all killing boy because them time too, it used to be hard, but I mean it's from you really.

Corie:

You go come on your gas shop like cassette or a CD or something. You never if you miss the dance, you miss it. You miss it. Yeah, I can't remember the first time Jaro come Harvard. I think it would be a Freddy. Something was going on in Simeon, and I missed it. By the time I reached back Harvard, dance and Jaro done play already. You miss it, you never said it.

SPEAKER_04:

That is it, that is it, that is it.

Corie:

But I think the thing is the same thing I was saying about 45 shoots, also the basketball vesting, right? Again, the the song clash thing in that time. Somebody had to do a documentary about I era because I back in Matsumiller. That argument. Yeah, yeah, yeah. When you when you're on the block now, I'm not telling you self. Everybody had a song like a body had a song.

SPEAKER_04:

That is that's how everybody radioactive comes out and maxi.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, Maxi Loadhopper's hoppy thing.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, you buy crowd padding. Oh, jeez. Boy for God.

SPEAKER_03:

He said that part in the interview. How much people you walk with in um shop lock, bonnie shop lock. The whole Santa Cruz. The whole Santa Cruz Bonnie, he pay bonnie, he pay bonnie. Hey David, you whole place yellow. Watch that. Court pad, that boy can call bad boy.

Corie:

So you was frightened, shootout or not? The man say you was frightened, so you decided to stay in out on tick. No, I was hosting the event.

SPEAKER_04:

So I can't host the event and respond and still come and study now to fight up the play. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because 45 shoots. No, but you say you decide to host because you were frightened to join. But if I but if I if it's my party, right. Yeah, maybe by different things. I said I would have come on. Yeah. Yeah, because up yours, yeah, you was part of but you wasn't paying at me. We were in okay, uh lazy man. Right? So we had to get everything together. We had to see about this, yeah, yeah. But while so we said we had to make sure everything on check. Yeah, everybody was anything because the next year I went to I went to 45 shootout in New York, you know. Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah, it's true. I forget about that. 45 shoot out. You can't beat me in for you. I forget about that. We went to 45 minutes. But that was me. I don't know. No 45 dance. I feel you mad. We went to 45 shoots. Forget about it.

SPEAKER_04:

Fire links, that's 2000,000 years. Fire links. That type fire links hot like that. Yeah, fire mighty crumb. Um, Renaissance. Um Love. Oh, yeah, the Italian song. Italian song. And a song from Canada. Song, not Rebel Tone. Rebel Tone was a very good one. Another song that can't come to my mind. Yeah. First song, too. And he plays second wrong. But the man say, boy, but the man say, boy, be that I just have to ask, but I'm a surround tear done. The only whole mean when some of them dance on them called them. And then say, boy, at the end of the day, he's a chini, and we just yard, man. I feel so. We can't really catch that. You're bad. Yeah, yeah. But we can't get that forward. You know, yeah, they want to preach.

Corie:

Especially back then. Yeah, them not gone just so. It takes a while before maybe outside of Mighty Crown, before any foreign song ready. He was able to challenge it. People wasn't here in that boy.

SPEAKER_04:

I forget what 25 shootouts. Yeah, or shootout so shootout. Come on, happy. Come on, happy. Come on, Crazy. All right, when Crazy played the deli rang size it. Yeah. And the Ellie, and the Harry Todd ladder, that is it. You understand? It's over. It's over. You understand? I guess I'll let no one another box good too. You can't go down the bounty lane. You can't go down the food lane. Or even anthems. Yeah. Anthems, when it comes to anthems on them. Yeah. But 10 anthems people could sing. So back to the blender.

Corie:

When you first get a blender, you know at that point you are so you have something.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, but yeah, because you know, because blender bring that for me. That writer picked on the blender. Alright. Yeah, a lot of songs in life. All them tunes bring that for me. Right. So, but when when you know, when we play the blender, you just know. From the time it comes in from the room. From the blend from me, we say, nah, but this. Yeah. Yeah, and I'm bell post. Then we have beating it in dance. No, you're beating it, you're beating it, you're beating it.

Corie:

So when you initially started playing, people started responding one time. One time.

SPEAKER_04:

Because we had a dance, we had a dance same time that we had because we had blenders a surprise guest in our upper energy shit. Dance cork. Dance ram. Yeah. And we have a surprise guest. And when the surprise guests come on, that time we're under big when you play any dubs and thing early, men bowling wow. Men ball in the dance and download cassette. So the cassette. Yeah, the dubs and hearing the tune on them. You know, so when Blender comes on and sing and thing.

Corie:

So it was a intro as it's face a man, but when he might see me every time I see that insult, I remember time you played and skin up. And Lego, you Louis Culture is the next one. Yeah, Louis. When that that when you had gathered one.

SPEAKER_04:

And again, we call yeah when you come here. And I know I had the rhythm at the building rhythm. But that's the other thing too.

Corie:

Because that rhythm ended up being a signature for you too. What's the name of the rhythm I go? Yeah. Because one by one, I always just and I feel I know your tune on them, man. Because I I are wrong it. So every time again I go and dance and I hear Matt Similar, you go put in a new one, you just keep building and adding and adding.

SPEAKER_04:

And because I say I had a building rhythm. So that time now to get to we just call it had a big show together this promotion. Had all the artists on them. Right. Like at two days, artists like rain. Yeah. So we went and take Lucci. So Luci now come and tell me, boy, come back tomorrow. Pick my six o'clock in the morning. So you don't all have five. I up. He played. And I played. Five to six. I know Luciano. Yeah, Lucci. You militant man. Rate that about you. And we walking out of Hilton and Luci singing in the morning. When he was singing, boots and things are whistling. I said, boy, something. Because Luciano is the only man that like it's kind of move me now. His music is kind of take my kind of way. Not respect to Luciano because we don't know where it is, partner. When Lucian is like, we had to just feel it now. So the man in the morning and this man singing and thing on boots and things. I said, but this man is different, boy. So then why come on um satelliting boy? I want to change up some of the woods, and then we just uh what's similar, take a umba on this brother Curtis, take a little show in the dance. So you say all right thing and then that show me add to the thing. Then we void you junior demus. For soldiers spragger, but when all spragger come here, things spraga line up, sprag session for everybody, and we just pillar with them from the yeah, you know, I wanted the weekend.

Corie:

You must say, Luciano, that's save job boy. I remember you messing that long after the song system thing done too. The song system thing is not the same then. Yeah, crowd is the night. He got mashups and Johns too, no. Come into tick balls.

SPEAKER_04:

Them tuna them, yeah, yeah. So you know, do she tuna them as be kind of thing?

Corie:

So do she come and keep tuna that that morning because you like how we on time we married after we get you know with as you said the relationship and the respect with the respect and next answer, but that bounce killer Matimil, like the showtime kind of no that one the showtime.

SPEAKER_04:

That's the showtime set it. Yeah, that happened now. Can you remember once you know they'd get the situation when you had in um they get lock up? I remember from Savano Savannah. Yeah, he was uh killer say, Come check me. You are smoke, you are we check it, killer. So I said, killer, yeah, we have to do now. You had to try and talk to your fans out there. So I call Peter C. Lewis. I say, Yeah, we had to do our interview. Explain yourself because people want to know what's going on. So same time now you call Peter C do the interview. You know, same time I call kid. I introduce kid to Sesla. Yeah, I make kids no Sesla because Kid Lil Fella them time studio. I say, kid, come on for you some sister for me. Right. So me and Ses are sitting on now. Good little youth. Work with him. See, he's doing little rhythm and think, you know, he's scared to have with Sisla.

Corie:

But he had to be real young them time. Real young.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, because young now, yeah. Yeah, young, real young. You understand? I says that's another I came. He started moving with Sisla. See, right now they have a big bond. Yeah, doing big things. All over the world. He mentioned Anthony B, managing.

Corie:

Oh, you managed to be too? Yeah. He had sad vast, right?

SPEAKER_04:

He had he was he was Well, Vass is their own thing. Vast now separate. Yeah, Vars, it's a owner. Vars, them is do the classy vast now working with Malinasha. Them okay, okay, good. He's doing well. Real big thing, master car really doing a whole big production. Okay, good, good. Like videos and different things first doing a real right big skill. Yeah, you are the heart of them thing. I think kid now which we come in and doing the update with Sisla. Right, yeah, yeah. I see Sisla work with him. This is that's all right to mass. If you say that, it's that. Yeah, and you understand them sort of work and they be like, man, it's so much a history. Sometimes, boy, I could talk for a whole thing. Because it's so much I think, boy. Yeah, you understand two or three hours. You can never do it. I tell many things. Different things, different situations, different times.

Corie:

That I send I tell people all the time, right? I think it was um if it could be Zan was here. I say Zan, the original podcast was on Anderson Street by Ud. Yeah, if we did record the thing that talked in that yard when we sit on blink, yeah. Everybody passed through the name.

SPEAKER_03:

Name, name, for the artist thing, promoter, Clem Roy, Pompey Girls and Pizzas.

SPEAKER_04:

That was like a headquarters, yeah. But that was the headquarters before show. After show, yeah.

Corie:

Remember seeing Bangton Livy there?

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, everybody, everybody, everybody, everybody. It's just at time that because if they think they did this, they're coming on for you, Sydney. Yeah, it had a whole lady who everybody was when I done him see the dirty up the house, thing early front, this one day, Mac Cabra. Yeah, this one, every party.

Corie:

That was at the end of this outside of Bujo. Who you wanted to get at you ain't get void is still adding to the I did want it to get Bunny Wheeler.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh you see, I paid him. I paid Bunny Wheeler. Serious? I paid Bunny Wheeler for my outside because I was leaving. So when I'm a budget from Jamaica, I said, go check bunny and bunny go sort it out for me. But Bunny do have our phone. You don't have a thing. When I meet him, all right, I go do it. The same big show. Now, why go host on Bunny? No, you can't we're gonna do it.

Corie:

They men don't do enough for real life or any of them. I really wanted to get Bonnie Wheeler. I remember time you tell them to the time when the artists come because they say father while he ain't young driving wrong with Dennis wrong and thing and you never said it does.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, get biker with that. Watch no, and it takes like no going to make a like the week after the voice Dennis said.

Corie:

Serious comes and jumping. Garnet took two. That was our shop too.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, we're gonna say we was early days. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Them days, you know what pushing out. You know, because I see man introduce Garner to China dad. I make them over Garnet. When a garner is sick when my father know my father living abroad, so he said any records to me. Right. So the record when we get Garner sick now, I went and get launched in the Ghana. I say, see the sun here is the biggest thing in thing. Yeah, that bounce to your being here. Three weeks after, yeah. Them garnet records is still at them. I say, Oh, you want them now? You understand? You caught Ghana Sick, run to the place. Yeah, yeah.

Corie:

That was that people, people know what lucky no. No would know. When we get in news that he dead here, the whole country shut up. Gonna play whole day. Yeah, you understand? But that's that thing about it.

SPEAKER_04:

We introduce them to Ghana sick, yeah.

Corie:

People might remember that too, but I always used to, you know, I rang long time. So from time from time I get to know you, I just hang in around. Wherever he is, I support it. And when I remember one time in a dance, it was Harvard's. So you know, again, it's your side. So I come in and Matt Similar, everybody knows me already. So it's and I always remember you. I can't remember you drop out early in the clash forever. But it wasn't Curtis. A youth man, it's Marcus, boy. You had a man playing with you. I think he's up. Sean police, you were supposed to. But he and you and Curtis had a thing where I ain't think nobody could have. No, no, no, no, no. Brothers. Yeah. So you can't you can't be that. Yeah. But I remember seeing any crowd after, and I said, We can't vex it out. Yeah. I say, Why is that one? But who's that man you bring to play there? And you say, Boy, you had a boss you to know. Yeah, you had the work with people, you don't you had to get chance.

SPEAKER_04:

And you didn't even bother, you just say, I believe in that because I mean, you you can't be fire for. And it's that was certain people think when it's your time, you just sort of say all right, all the time youths, all the duality. I I come on my I come on my time and I it's a people want to hold on to. And don't want to get the youth and them a chance, you have to get the youth and them a chance. Right now, if I get too bad, you don't want to play this song. I I seriously do that? Yeah, but you have to have a certain live on to K a certain level to play the song.

SPEAKER_05:

Right.

SPEAKER_04:

You understand? Because I stand for certain things, certain things you can't really come and use the name and play them buttoness and promote certain things, we not and that.

Corie:

Yeah, that's a funny thing too. Although it was clash and it was that kind of thing, it's still never really coming.

SPEAKER_04:

But you can't come and support and deal with different things. Especially as you get older. Yeah, we we you understand? I just tell them I wish this whole situation in shit. Everybody in the walks of life. I meet up tongue, ministers, this one, good boy, everybody. You understand? I always always tell them, I meet them, I say, boy, only I don't forget that and live with love. I say life shorter now. You know, the more people we see him making people like why I sprung the Savannah in thing. I can remember everybody who bad used to come there and listen to Reggae music. And at night I see a man, one of them gangsters that he dressed up now. He comes and recessaban EV. So I said, Well this man just sounds like a woman. So when I make it out, he disguised just because he just wanna come there and just listen to music. This guy's like a woman and not just up like a woman. Jesus make him a yellow shark, right? You know, the day he come back now, he dresses up, they kill him. Yeah, you see plenty of that over there. You see it come and go, and you start letting me.

Corie:

But think about it most and the street that we talk about it. Because that was our next that was that was that was in new culture.

SPEAKER_04:

But that was but that was the thing as people perform and they did it's had no rubber, nothing good. As we move for the cannot you see what happened now?

Corie:

You old people undera can't walk the street lonely. Yeah, you see, but look how men we were lyman right away to drop out, yeah. You know what I mean? There's real people, real people, yeah. I'm sure they doesn't live good and live the right way. Yeah, because the thing is like the double thing. We was in a time where men cut soak and thing, but the or or um when we had things like reggae all-stars and reggae movements, and real men was cutting local double plates still. But I always wonder now if if, and maybe the way you see it, the sound systems on them who know that it has so much young artists who are so talented here. I wonder how much they're picking up because these youth's bad.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, it's a real well this week I was talking to uh uh artist named Sammy Joe. Right? A female artist that very talented talented, and I don't know how she boss, yeah. And you just hear them early, too. Yeah, I don't know how she boss, I know this guy, I know this who does manage him, Naila.

Corie:

And son, I know you're gonna be able to do it. You know, I was telling them I I know you're doing some work with her, right? But I go on Sunday. And Sun and Sun. Oh, he was working on her. Yeah, you're doing some work with her, right? And I want to know, oh but people don't bust us in the same way, like the chance to do it.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, so at the end of the day I tell you how they had to come and check me gonna do some dubs, and I gonna take her forward. Yeah, yeah. Look at this guy, it had this guy the other day's um name is Judah. Right. He he he he he had a song named um Calling on Urbalist. Right. Nobody knows what songs play that on my program because you know I have a program at 105 on a Saturday. And I beat in that tune and beating that tune and beating big. The concert with um Kings are the eight. When he man, I played the tune. I think he can't play the tune. He man seen the concert and he eight tune brilliant game forward. The man watched the man see he was in amazing, but the body is no. No, because they're on the top. Everybody in our laptop, they come in a laptop, they're feeling the badest thing. But you tell people, like I watch near the men playing without headphones. What you tell him about? Yeah, we tell me about you trying to wear doing music, get it cool. You understand? But the other day, no, I so this time you buy like to old school. I just play you know, where you pull it back on to him, because I want to feel it still. It had the thing I could short color relative mode, yeah. But sometimes I just like to give the original feeling, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Corie:

You know, something can record you had a search, pull back things. Yeah, that even I think you used to do a simple thing, right? I used to watch when you mix in. Could be from the Saturday nights, you know. You used to pull out the bass every time you're gonna mix a chance.

SPEAKER_04:

I can talk mix for myself to glow.

Corie:

Yeah, you don't see that too much again.

SPEAKER_04:

Most people carry it into that, you know. Nah, nah, nah. You had to be embedded in that and that you had to come from that. But I tell them, when I used to come from school, me and not more going on and ride, nobody can't ride by two. I gotta play football. Right? So I come home, do your homework, two hours of music in it. Hey, play some two day thing. Yeah, boy, grid Z music, then sleep.

Corie:

People might know your mother and father in all them dance, so all them dance with mods. I'm being them there.

SPEAKER_04:

And music I had to study, music from from them time. Yeah, you have to pee on it. You know, it's a no plea thing, and no plea thing, learn it, learn the crowd. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Learn this. No, we're telling you they come with a laptop or BPM back and they feel any badest thing. Top ten chun. Sometimes I've been I hear them playing music at the BPM. Are you saying you have to be crazy, man?

Corie:

That is the way not.

SPEAKER_04:

I just call them crackhead selectors. Yeah, because they selectors and crack because you think oh, you can enjoy that music. So he B PM quiet on the pitch. Yeah, fast as they can go.

Corie:

That can't be music, why is it for people to enjoy that that that that era feel you can see a comeback boy? Because see a few the mighty crown people came out, yeah. Because mighty crown, and he might again. Yeah, but I guess that was the farewell total.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, but mighty crown come on the the thing when I when I started getting every fire, so right when I said a ball boy in line, but you ain't lost a beat. No, you lost a piece of but it's no saying, boy, that in better than me. You know, and as I pick up that mic, and I have a selector shooting for me, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Corie:

That is it. We had to see Mattimela versus Taurus versus Zygon. Yeah, no problem. That's another thing we never raised. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because had a young song, what do you call the young song?

SPEAKER_04:

Taurus, Taurus, he taking a feeling girl for one in the Bobby a feeling for one. But I never really I was no clash with Taurus and the song from from Holland, Well come on win. Um win, win, win the night, you know. So I really chapterly, but I wasn't prepared, Cory. To be honest, I never prepare for the dance. I never knew to work properly, right? But don't say long and prepare and work on you. Yeah, yeah, well. You have a problem, yeah. You have a problem.

Corie:

Yeah, well, don't say the chunks. But like I said, but seconds are gonna know. If David not especially on the next David had a different spot, but long side plan for you. You have a problem. Yeah, so I plan for up here number Friday. Yeah, yeah, I them done.

SPEAKER_04:

Some tricks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. At the end of the day, it's enjoyment, it's entertainment. Yeah, you know, you come out, you entertain, you have you have fun, no malice. After that, we we we laugh, we drink, and yeah, move on. We have you have, you know, there's goodness. I think that is where the thing is missing, man. Because even though it's as a as our fans, yeah, the thing they turn out together, and there's a lot of feelings in the industry who don't deal with this one who don't function with this one who don't make a sense. Defy that rule is the only plan. You only had to come together, make it thing happen. You understand? This one of it don't make no sense because the song class is it's small, you don't know big sort of crowd. But the nice thing is the crowd has come out, but yeah, but you have to with who they just come out for? Well, I guess. I guess yeah, that's who they'll come out for. No disrespect to the young song of them, you know. If you put all of them in a dance, yeah, it's hard. Nobody, it's hard. But if you put the old generation to dance the round, why? Why is that? Yeah, yeah, you have no fans, you have no supporters.

Corie:

Some of them base, some of them whole bass on Instagram and thing too, you know.

SPEAKER_04:

You have to have supporters, you have to have fans, you gotta do your thing. People and people come now, yeah, they're knowing what time and where they get in.

Corie:

But that's the other thing too. Uh before we wrap up, you see that billing anthems were all you do. It's so hard.

SPEAKER_04:

You see, people want to play a song for six months and move on.

Corie:

You had to be the tune. Boy, the greatest, I feel the greatest I see done here was truth, huh? Because that determined. I remember when them started.

SPEAKER_04:

That determined they never like it. They didn't like it. I get that determined. Serious? Yeah. When they had the guy, no vans of the guy, I was going alright. Determine and he read them. So I see determined I'm a little song. Get them a tune. Right. So I say, Oh my anything you say, you know. Float, you know, from my high hair. They were when they say any tune, I'm thinking I'd go see. You understand? So I come and tell them, boy, that tune. That is a big song. And then they take the idea, they start working. I say, All right, Anthony B, come on here with them and I get you one thing I can do, one thing I can say. You understand? You have to work your tune on them, and look when I play when stone, you know, me and Stone have been them in in cooking. I said a clash. Yeah. Me and um, we name Rory. Now Rory, um, slaughter. I remember that. I remember that. So I said, me and Stone, one for one. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, yeah, me, yeah, me, yeah, me, and time. Mm-hmm. So I play the blender and shake the place now. Yeah, oh, that look a blender. You can't buy that down the road. And you play the shab and um the shab on Johnny husband. I don't want to ice cream. So I say, Yeah. I say, you're your two more expensive than my own. But you see like a sweetie tune. I'm gonna kill it tonight. And play play the Louis Culture. We are what you watch me so. You know, you know, Alex big thing. What logo the hell if many and coconut shaking shaking. But them times. Now you turn on the back and start with juggle as and radioactive. Yeah, yeah. Take the gun outside the bottom on juggler. I think killing my sister halfway.

SPEAKER_03:

Kill them. Kill them coconuts are little boots. That'll DJ Boot and Coconut.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, that great thing and bass nightclub as well. I remember when Ludakis comes down. Why china? Yeah, go remember. I salute kiss, but I salute yeah, we need some chops, man. Because they really know the play too. They don't know what I know you need chops. Well, I give a move, song by get out of the way. But see, man, I say get out the way. I play that in the base. I take that and test it out in the base. I play that in the base okay. Watch now, people going crazy, you know. Yeah, that hero. I play that, I play that in a cash with Panther myself in Boston. And fight break out, you know? That's much fight.

SPEAKER_03:

No, it's like two rounds, security, security.

Corie:

Because it's shit. No, but somebody selectors locally here. Out of them abroad, Panther troop, all of them may play against. Who is the most difficult one for you to plan for now?

SPEAKER_04:

Why Panther boy? Yeah. Panther, you want Panther momentum. You see, momentum, took him no momentum. You had to weaken him from early. Because anytime you get momentum for your kids, you can't catch him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I watch now. I see Panther come up from a day and winning. Look when he went 2001 to work clash when he went. But when the whole is also watching that, I fire true. Yeah, Pantana come on up. She goes out. Pantano light on the gun. Yeah, Panther roll on the stage. Yeah, yeah, mighty crowd went based on this. Warm to me. And this boy, and that's winning the colour. Win the crowd, winning crowd. Yeah. And after he win the crowd, you that's how they say, boy. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's how they leave a panther very, very difficult. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, because thing and you and you see Yankee mix. And more you if you custom and thing now, you say, God, think because it had a dance now. I play him again. No playback. If you play back, you lose. All right. So you know you have to be troubled. If you mean it's tune play, you had to take it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That play already move that. That play, move that. You understand? So you have to be on point. Yeah. So any one for one you play back or two now. I say, Panther, one for one, you play back two, you can't with me. See now we ball. Oh god, man, the rash chunk, man. Don't worry about him. He drinks too much. You kill him. And try now. So men almost had a laugh. Yeah. And Panta go with back in the class. I said, Panta. And same time, same time now. Skipping bust down. And all I win one big van driving back to New York. I say, Panther. But we have to make sure. You ain't win me. Yeah, me. Why you give me some trouble? Yeah, because when I tie back up on them, it's trouble.

Corie:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's that one year to go on abroad and win too. I can't remember where if that was in Texas, that's where I can.

SPEAKER_04:

When I go back in next year. But who it was?

Corie:

It was Panta too.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, it was Panther, Trooper, Mike, Mikey Fate. Right. Oh, that's that one. Right. When that dance the next year we go out back now. So the Mikey Fate and them fade we. You understand? So where we play now? They fellas and them turning on the bass. Making the song song distorted. Sasha Marley. You know, playing Sasha Marley dynamic, you know. Oh, African. Yeah, from then? African playing. Right? Mad Squad. Mighty Fate. Which is a song? Everybody coming at me, you know, but me for it. But I say, boy, it don't make no sense, go, because when I played, the song distorted. They do that for wickedness.

Corie:

That was clash to me.

SPEAKER_04:

So that you might even sabotage him, man. So I don't say, only what they dance so bad, only go ahead.

Corie:

And I come on the clash.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it don't make no sense. At the same time, Chuck Fender, Chuck Fender and them running and I play in them dubs and them. And then fellas and them in and the song song incorrect. No matter what big trune play with song and song incorrect. And when them playing the song turn on bass hard and them thing, I say we're about a plan for you tonight. Babyface is to use badness. Remember baby face on baby face? New lots. Now, new lots. When you go, you have you could bring badness to them. Yeah, you are mad. You want baby face, get your badness. So badness, you have to be real. It's a real plaything.

Corie:

For sure, for sure. But brother, I'm looking forward to Friday tonight coming out. I will hop and drop. Right, David, we go one footed.

SPEAKER_04:

But I w it will be a nice thing, right? Um look out for some surprises. Never know what could happen. Yeah, true playing, shouldn't I go pelt? Can I stand? Yeah. Wherever it's keeping, I'm gonna be there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, representing. And if you're not really can't come in. It's yeah, yes, yes.

Corie:

It's our one thing we in touch. We soaker. You do our one so and then you drop out. You get done with it immediately. I try, boy.

SPEAKER_03:

I find I find it was bad. Because right now we saw the pain beta and sticky. We go in bring it back out.

SPEAKER_04:

Bring it back out. I'll pick out one performance and I see boy. I'm born like rain. I said, boy, all them so cut. What's I see them so card? Is that what they're putting on?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, but I'll do some, I'll do some performance with it, but you mean people might even remember early sharp days.

Corie:

We was managing them and shared career and things too. I know. Good days, my friend, boy. David, what I'm missing, I'm missing anything? Boy, I'm sad. Let me wrap up by saying that and to say thanks not just for coming today, but for everything. Because I tell you, so Umba is a number in a time where you just stole number in your phone and you don't know people's number. I know your number if I'm in trouble somewhere anyway, any full. I could call it and baba baba. And it's not just for me, for plenty lots of people that say that.

SPEAKER_04:

Because I know I'm on it personally, they can be come out. Boy, that's the next time. So make me go. I really don't cover I like to be on time because I don't like to waste people's time. I don't know, I know you know uh come out early. You know, I want to say enough respect to you doing a good thing, David, yourself. You know, enough respect. You know, I know my last step in stone a little one thing, you know, in them time and I see you doing big things now, big artists now. We cresting and vex with you. Well boy, imagine that by me, boy. I mean, you had to get your respect because if you ain't doing nothing good, then with the immediate. But that's true. That's a respect. So you're doing a good thing and enough respect.

Corie:

I appreciate that. Maybe I should also say that if it's anybody could vex with me for not calling me, it's this man. And he never calls, he never asks, he never says. So same thing you say in the interview, you know, say, boy, you don't ask back for nothing. That is the right.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, because that is the thing. I mean, if you had the knowledge, you had to share it. Why you know that is something to share knowledge, not something to keep for yourself. Yeah, you know, you go out there, share the knowledge, and you give you know you experience your share it.

Corie:

Exactly. Yeah. Well, brother, you're gonna be able to do it. No, no, no. We do about 10% of stories.
